Respite for carers
Caring for someone you love can be rewarding and tiring. Respite gives you time to rest, work, see friends or look after your own health while we care for your loved one.
What it is
In-home respite: a support worker or nurse comes to your home and takes over the care for a few hours, a day or overnight.
Community respite: we take your loved one out to do something they enjoy, so you get some time at home.
Short stays: your loved one stays with us for a short time. Our short term accommodation page explains how it works.
Who it is for
- Parents of children with disability
- Partners and adult children caring for someone at home
- People caring for a veteran
- Carers who need cover because they are unwell or have an appointment
How respite works
- We get to know you both, including routines, likes and what helps on a hard day.
- We book respite for the times you need, regular or one-off.
- Our worker follows your loved one's routine while you are away.
- When you get back, we tell you how it went.
