Espoir Care, formerly Being Human Care

What it is

Unlike Supported Independent Living, home care is not about moving into shared housing. A support worker visits for set shifts each week to help with whatever you need at home.

That could be a mix of household jobs, meals, personal care, sorting mail, phone calls, keeping appointments or just having someone to talk things through with.

Who it is for

  • Adults with disability living in their own home or with family
  • People who want to keep living where they are as their needs change
  • Families who want someone reliable to check in during the week

What a typical shift looks like

  1. Your support worker arrives and you talk about what the day needs.
  2. You work through the jobs together, and you do as much yourself as you want to.
  3. They might help you make a meal, sort the mail or get ready for an outing.
  4. At the end of the shift they note what was done, so the next worker can pick up where they left off.

Questions people ask

How is this different from SIL?

SIL supports people in shared or supported housing, often around the clock. Home care is support in your own home for set hours each week.

Can my hours change over time?

Yes. Tell us if you need more or less help and we will update your support plan and service agreement with you.

Can you help me with letters and bills?

Yes. We can help you sort mail, make phone calls and keep track of appointments. You stay in charge of your own money.
